I read an article a long time ago in Mother Jones about the mentality of a whistle blower. It wasn’t terribly positive, and I’m not sure exactly why. Take this case, for example, which wouldn’t be anywhere without a whistle blower: a pharmacist for Walgreens just blew open a huge scheme to bilk taxpayers of millions of dollars by switching Medicaid patients to the most expensive version of a pill:
To save taxpayer dollars, Medicaid limits how much it pays for popular forms of drugs.
But it doesn’t bother to set price-ceilings on rarely-used versions.
Take generic Zantac, or ranitidine, for example. The antacid is a huge seller in tablet form. Medicaid limits payment to 34 cents apiece.
The same drug as capsules has no price-ceiling because it was so rarely-prescribed. Medicaid pays $1.25 each.
Walgreens figured it could pocket millions by switching patients from tablets to capsules.
Cheers, whistleblower! I raise my cup of tea to you this morning. Walgreens agreed to repay the government 35 million dollars. I wish I had a job to offer the whistle blower.
Well thanks for the encouragement Ms. Theologian. I just downed a couple of cuppas, being that time of day and all.
I have considered blowing an actual whistle in front of the Unitarian Church of Montreal, to say nothing of 25 Beacon Street. . . but it will have to wait a bit since Montreal Unitarians were recently successful in obtaining a year long restraining order against me based on their paranoid fantasies about me. U*Us sure aren’t doing themselves any favors in attempting to silence whistle blowers. It only proves what hypocrites they are when they purport to be “opposed to censorship by church, state, or any other institution” in their fraudulent religious propaganda.
Oops! Did I just blow my virtual whistle again?
I will have to be careful what I say about a particular unmentionable U*U “church” and its outrageously hypocritical leadership until I get some further legal advice but I see no reason why I can’t direct your attention to this whistle-blowing Emerson Avenger blog post which predates the restraining order by a few days.

Comment by The Emerson Avengah 06.16.08 @ 1:59 pmHaving been in the role of whistleblower before, even in a minor degree, I know full well that legal proceedings are not for the faint of heart. If you’d like to have your credentials and credibility turned against you in the worst way possible and in a court of law, then this might explain why so few are willing to act in kind.
Comment by Comrade Kevin 06.16.08 @ 5:13 pmUnfortunately, our society views whistleblowers in a negative light. Though it is the whistleblower that stands up and exposes corporate corruption for the better of society. Like Kevin, I too was a whistleblower and experienced an incredible journey as an FBI spy and government informant. This truly is not for the faint of heart.

Thanks for allowing me to blow my virtual whistle here Ms. Theologian. It is most appreciated.
Don’t worry Kevin. I don’t have a faint heart. In fact I have quite enjoyed the legal proceedings arising out of Montreal Unitarian U*Us bringing highly questionable criminal charges against me. Even the most recent foray, involving a very biased if not outright hostile female judge, was kinda entertaining. If nothing else these court proceedings provide me with an opportunity to quite thoroughly cross-examine U*U prosecution witnesses and lay down a fair bit of sworn testimony of my own about the words and actions of Montreal Unitarians. . . All of that sworn testimony is digitally recorded and, at least theoretically, available to the general public. It does cost a fair bit for the recordings though. Probably a few hundred for the whole hearing. I was able to buy the complete recording of the previous criminal trial for a paltry $5.75.
Even though the Quebec Court judge presiding over the restraining order hearings did her damnedest to prevent me from revealing the truth, the *whole* truth, and nothing but the truth during my cross-examination of a certain unmentionable U*U minister and my own sworn testimony (even blocking me from submitting evidence that would have proven that this U*U minister lied while under oath to tell the truth) my own credibility remains intact. I have however been effectively slandered “in the worst possible way” in that Montreal Unitarian U*Us have effectively portrayed me as a violent criminal, even though I have been totally non-violent throughout this conflict. You should see some of the things that Montreal Unitarians said about me in their depositions to the Montreal police force, and you will hopefully have an opportunity to do just that down the road a bit.
I find it most ironic that I engaged in my whistle blowing against anti-religious intolerance and bigotry perpetrated by hard-core atheist “Humanist” U*Us for the betterment of the so-called U*U World but, so far. . . Montreal Unitarian U*Us and other U*Us, including UUA administrators, have repeatedly fallen all over themselves to make the situation significantly worse than when I first blew my whistle over a decade ago.

Comment by The Emerson Avengah 06.18.08 @ 12:50 pmJust to be clear. My public protest “whistle-blowing” began in May of 1998 but it was preceded by a couple of years worth of less public internal “whistle-blowing” mainly involving writing letters of grievance. I was actually expelled from the “church” for six months for doing nothing more than submitting a letter of grievance to the Board prior to deciding to go ahead with the public protest that I had warned the “church” I would engage in if they failed to responsibly address my legitimate grievances about anti-religious intolerance and bigotry on the part of some fundamentalist atheist “Humanist” U*Us.
