Articles like this are filled with air. Anyone at anytime can be laid off. The main issue is helping employees or friends not panic. Panic is probably worse for them whether they have a job or not.

I fear that the consequences of following this advice is that you would blame yourself if you were laid off. And, those of us who have been laid off know that that is a terrible and unnecessary feeling.
