Out of Sorts; Out of Mind
I had a miscarriage on Thursday, the second miscarriage in 18 months, and I’m profoundly sad about it, and really not able to provide any sort of commentary on spirituality at work (or surviving the workday) for a while. I usually blog one or two days ahead of time with drafts, so I’m now out of drafts and out of words. So I’m going to take time off from blogging in order to take my own advice on authenticity (and civility) rather than fake it.
I have two other blog contributors, who have graciously agreed to post when they see spirituality and the workplace issues in the news or in their lives. Anne P is a UU-Quaker (or Quaker-UU) and GhostGirl is…hm…a former-Christian? post-Christian? None of the above? Both work outside the home and as employees rather than being self-employed, so you will get some perspectives different from my own no doubt.
Given the number of miscarriages (one million a year in the United States alone), you might think that there would be a plethora of resources out there. And there are some, but not necessarily what there should be. In any event, often people do not know what to say, and you may find After a Miscarriage: Supporting Friends and Family helpful to read. I found the advice from Resolve (p. 13) helpful too. I do have a support system, which I’m using, and now I’m going to let Anne P and GhostGirl do the posts for a while.
