Mothering Ourselves

Jim was telling me about an interview he read with John Lennon on Dennis Mahagin’s blog.

Lennon commented in an interview:

The worst pain is that of not being wanted, of realising your parents do not need you in the way you need them.

It seems to me that much of what many of us do in the workplace is to seek love, approval, guidance, and warmth that we didn’t receive earlier in life from our parents. Work may not be the right place for these feelings, but they are there regardless.

One way to deal with this is to learn how to engage in mothering ourselves
